ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Assad Del Cor is a Belarusian-born artist, art conservator and educator based in Egypt. His professional career in the arts began in 1994 as a painter and conservator at the P. V. Maslenikov Art Museum in Mogilev, Belarus, where he worked with the restoration of paintings and later with icons, murals and historical artworks in churches and monasteries.

His artistic practice is informed by a deep understanding of classical painting, historical art and conservation, while his long-term life and work in Egypt have become an important influence on his visual language. Since 2000, he has also worked extensively as an art educator, conducting workshops and teaching painting and drawing in Belarus, Russia and Egypt. In 2009, he founded the Bonifacy Art Studio in Hurghada.

Alongside his artistic and educational practice, Assad has participated in international art initiatives and exhibitions in Egypt and Belarus. His recent activities include an international art symposium in Siwa Oasis, Egypt, and exhibitions and plein-air projects organised in Belarus by the Belarusian Union of Artists and major regional art institutions. In 2025, he participated in the 29th International Painting Plein Air "The Image of the Motherland in Fine Art" and the republican exhibition-competition "Viva Kola Art 25" in Minsk.

Assad Del Cor's work brings together historical memory, Egyptian cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expression, creating a dialogue between the past and the present.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice is rooted in a dialogue between memory, human experience and cultural heritage. Living and working in Egypt has profoundly influenced my understanding of the relationship between the present and the ancient past, and this connection has become an important part of my artistic language.

I am particularly interested in ancient Egyptian civilisation not simply as a historical subject, but as a living source of visual and emotional memory. Through figures, symbols, gestures and everyday situations, I seek to evoke the atmosphere of ancient Egypt while giving it a contemporary interpretation.

My works often explore themes of identity, solitude, human connection, memory and spiritual presence. I am interested in moments when the visible world seems to overlap with an inner reality - when a memory, a feeling or a connection with the past becomes almost tangible.

I work across different approaches and materials, including painting, mixed media, collage and expressive mark-making. I often combine traditional figurative representation with contemporary techniques and unexpected materials. This allows me to create works in which historical references coexist with personal experience and contemporary visual language.

Rather than reproducing ancient Egyptian art, I seek to reconnect with its spirit. I am interested in the emotional response that emerges when ancient symbols, human stories and contemporary artistic expression meet. For me, this creates a distinctive feeling of connection with Egypt - a sense of intimacy, timelessness and a momentary passage between the present and the distant past.

My aim is not to recreate history, but to allow it to breathe within contemporary art.
